Your home is considered sacred. That is, anything you store in your house should theoretically be safe, and that includes money. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world which means nothing is really safe, not even when it’s in your home. Intruders can gain access to your home and steal, your children can steal from you and even friends that come to visit can “borrow” from you. There’s no point in discussing all the possible scenarios where money could go missing from your own house, because the list is endless.

The simple fact is, if you want to protect something – like a stash of money – you need to hide it. You need to hide it somewhere good though, somewhere no one will think to look. Just placing an envelope under your mattress isn’t going to cut it. In fact, most burglars look under the mattress first.
Here, are some great places to hide your money in your home.

The Safest Places to Hide Money in Your Home- In an envelope and in a ‘random’ folder in your filing cabinet – Provided you have enough files stored away, no one is going to want to sort through them all. Even if they do open your filing cabinet there’s no way they would find the right file. Plus, there are probably dozens of envelopes stored away in your filing cabinet already. Just don’t go naming the file “emergency cash” or something of the sort.

– In an envelope taped to the bottom of your cat’s litter box – When you go to retrieve your cash it’s definitely going to smell raunchy. That being said, most people would never think to turn over a litter box for hidden items. If they happen to move the box or pick it up the envelope will stay taped to the bottom.

– In the freezer – You can stash your money in a plastic baggie, or even put it in an empty food box. The freezer is a great place to store your cash because most people wouldn’t think to look there. In addition, if there’s ever a fire in your home your emergency stash would be safe.

– In a tampon box – That would be the last place they think to check for a stash of money, believe me.

– Behind a picture frame – You can hide an envelope, baggie or even tape bills themselves to the back of a picture, in-between the print and the frame. If or when someone pulls the picture off the wall, the money will still be safely hidden away. This also helps ensure you bring the money along if you ever make a big move, just make sure no one breaks the frame!

– Inside a fish tank – This requires a watertight container or baggie of some kind, obviously. You can stash the money underneath the decorative rocks, or even inside one of the ornaments. Very few burglars are going to stick their hands in a dirty fish tank looking for money or jewels.

There you have it! Those are some of the best places, along with safe boxes of course, to hide money in your home. Where do you hide your stash?
